Do I contradict myself?
Very well, then I contradict myself;
(I am large – I contain multitudes.)
-Walt Whitman, Song of Myself
I’m going to skip over all the David Copperfield crap about my upbringing and my family, and what my parents did before I was born. Don’t worry they won’t have a hemorrhage if I talk about it, but that crap really does bore me. (Shout out to Holden Caulfield!) Let’s skip to the good bit.
I started blogging on Myspace circa 2006 to talk about my clothes. I joined Twitter in January of 2008 and grabbed the name @SlaveToFashion. That platform, that blog, and a visit to the Austin Social Media Club to hear a friend speak and eat free pizza are what started me on the path to digital marketing.
I switched over to a Tumblr blog in early 2009, then to my own site in 2012. Over time, I stopped writing about “fashion” and started writing more about personal style, body image, and even mental illness, and living with chronic health conditions. My blog evolved, and at the end of 2012, my work evolved. I launched my own social media company, Slave to Social, to work in the area that I had grown to love so much.
Fast forward to 2018, and it’s time to grow. Slave to Fashion and Slave to Social have served me well, but my writing and my work have grown. I’m no longer limited to fashion and social media. Cathy360 is the merger between my writing about my life, and the work I do as a digital creative. Because they are intrinsically linked; there is no one without the other. I wouldn’t get to do the work I do without the blog I started for fun all those years ago.
Life is good. I do work that I love, share a home with my sweet husband and fluffy and evil cat. I hoard coloring books, stationery and notepads, and markers and pens. I get to enjoy getting dressed to suit my mood and my life, and I obsessively hone my skills to better serve my clients.
This is me. The life I live, the work I do, and the multitudes that I contain.
