One Dress Two Ways for Valentine’s Day

It’s Valentine’s Day and I’m so freaking EXCITED!! I know that not everyone loves this holiday, but personally, I love celebrating love. There is so much love in my life, from my sweet husband, to family and friends, and even my ungrateful cat. Obviously I can’t think about a holiday without thinking about what I’m going to wear – that’s just how I roll.

One thing you might not know about me is that I am not a fan of kitsch. I mean, I have an appreciation for the artristy of it, and I love it on other people. When it comes to me and my personal style, I like to keep things pretty simple and classic. So that means no red or pink theme dressing for Valentine’s Day! (Disclaimer: I did get Valentine’s nails yesterday, but they are black with a black heart on one nail and a red bling heart outline on another. That’s as close as I get to a holiday theme.)

So obviously I wanted my Valentine’s Day look to be something I felt super cute in! Now, until a few days ago, I didn’t know what we were doing to celebrate, so I planned a fancy outfit and a casual outfit based on my favorite black tank dress. Check out my looks below!

Obviously, all pictures are by the amazing Caitlin McWeeney!

Outfit One – Casual Cool

Valentine's Day Outfit 1
Dress – City Chic Bodycon Dress in Black, Nordstrom | Sweater – BP Curved Hem Cardigan in Emerald, Nordstrom (Sold Out) | Shoes – Nordstrom (Sold Out)
Valentine's Day Outfit 1
Lipstick – Kylie Cosmetics Velvet Matte Lipstick in That’s Wild (part of a limited edition set)

I know y’all have seen this sweater a million times, but this color has never been featured on the blog! The color goes with everything, it’s cozy without being too hot, and it is just the right length. I kept it casual with sneakers, but they are fancy because hey are gold with ribbons instead of laces. Also, I love this dress so much I own it in navy blue and black. They are absolute workhorses in my closet and I wear them constantly.

Outfit Two – Fun and Fancy

Valentine's Day Outfit 2
Blazer – Smart Stretch Leopard, Lane Bryant | Shoes – Caslon, Nordstrom (sold out – similar)

If you can’t tell from the pic, I LOVE THIS BLAZER!

I own the pants that go with this blazer, and it’s the first suit I’ve ever owned. I wore it for Christmas and it was magic, and I remember thinking how much fun it would be to style the pieces separately! This blazer is perfect for a fancier night out, and it is so insanely comfy, I can barely tell it’s not a cardigan! I paired it with the closest thing to heels I own these days, which is more of a wedge sneaker. But I love the way the look turned out and I think this is what I’ll be wearing for our celebration!

The Details

Manicure – The best nail person in Austin, Lastar Anderson! | Virgin Mary decals – ChaCha Covers | Signet Ring – Stella & Dot (sold out – similar)

In late November last year, I decided I wanted to get my nails done. But not just any old mani; I wanted a set of highly decorated nails like the kinds I drooled over on Instagram and Pinterest. A friend highly recommended Lastar, so I made an appointment, and she exceeded all of my expectations!! Since that first set, she has helped me keep my fingers fresh as hell, and is always up to try whatever crazy design I come up with. I discovered ChaCha Covers through Instagram, and knew right away that I had to try out some Virgin Mary nails. I got so many compliments on this set, and people were so amazed that I kept up with the length and the intricate designs, but I love it. It’s a form of self-care for me now, and I love having them elaborately done at all times! Also, you can’t really tell in the picture, but my signet ring is engraved with C ♥ A – it was a Valentine’s Gift from my honey and it is my all time favorite piece of jewelry!

What are y’all doing for Valentine’s Day? More importantly, what are you wearing??
