Plus Size Swimwear For All of Austin to See

I can’t believe it’s been so long since I last wrote. Has my life been that boring? Have I really not been getting dressed?? Who cares!! I have exciting news now!!

A few weeks ago, Amy Gentry, the style writer at The Austin Chronicle, emailed me to ask if she could interview me for a feature she was writing. She wanted to talk about plus size swimwear and body image, and the crazy relationship between women and the spandex the swim in. Of course, I was like HECK YES!!! So we met up at a cute coffee shop and chatted for about an hour. She was so sweet and so easy to talk to. Β Then she asked about the photoshoot……

My idea of a photoshoot…

That’s right friends. She wanted me to be a part of the photo gallery she was putting together of women in swimsuits. Naturally my first thought was Oh, hell no. Is she crazy? No one wants to see all of this in a swimsuit. There are rolls, there are lumps, there is ZERO suntan. JUST.NO.

I told her I’d think about it, and I went home fully intending to write an email saying I had thought about it, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. But then I got sad. Because I had just sat there for an hour talking about body acceptance and how everyone had beautiful bodies and shouldn’t be ashamed of them. So why was I any different? Why was I so willing to give every other woman on earth a pass, but I didn’t get one? So I emailed and told her I would do it.

I went and found myself a super cute suit to wear, and met Amy at 7:30 in the morning to do a photoshoot. It didn’t take long, and Amy made it super easy. We walked around, found some pretty spots and did pictures in my swimsuit and in my cover up. And you know what?? It was actually really fun!

A few extra pics from the shoot……

I’m so excited to share the article and the pictures with you all! It’s not easy putting yourself out there in a bathing suit. It’s hard enough just to wear one at the pool or the lake; but putting the photographic evidence online for the whole world (well, okay all of Austin) to see? It takes some guts my friends.

I want to thank Amy for even inviting me to be a part of this article and shoot. I had soooooo much fun and she is so freaking awesome! And I’d really like to tip my hat to all of the other lovely ladies that participated in the shoot. Every single one is gorgeous and amazing!!!

Corrin posted your link, and I wanted to say YOU GO, GIRL. I have such a hard time giving myself that same pass – even when I talk a good talk about it “in theory.” πŸ™‚ Your willingness to be awesome is so inspiring, and you look fabulous πŸ™‚

OMG, Cathy, this is AMAZING! You look beautiful and are oozing confidence, as you should be. Now I’m ready to let it all (okay, most of it) hang out this summer! πŸ™‚

Cathy, you ROCK!!! Gorgeous! I’m so glad you did it. You’re my inspiration, so now when I walk out of the ocean in my J Crew long-torso one piece size 14 in green, I intend to swagger back up to my beach towel with an Ursula Andress “Bond Girl” slink!
